Antonin Scalia is a threat to this country

I'm not going to mince words: if Antonin Scalia is made Chief Justice of SCOTUS, I fear for what has become the minority view on religion in this country, and indeed for many of the fundamental truths this country was founded upon.

First (since I've been paying attention to him, anyway) was the news last year that Scalia felt that the separation of church and state was an outmoded and artificial edifice in public life and should be done away with. The Red Staters threw up a cry of rejoicing that would have made Joshua at Jericho proud. Now comes this latest tidbit from Scalia, basically saying that when the Red Staters feel they're being called 'ignorant' (or 'misinformed,' or 'completely fucking wrong when compared to the facts of history'), they should embrace that, because they should be proud to be "fools for Christ."

Honestly, do we really want our legacy to the future be the fact that we embraced ignorance? Do we want to be remembered for the fact that a majority of Americans believe that evolution should be something that should not be taught in our science classes, or should not be believed at all? Do we want to be remembered for the fact that, when asked, 44% of Americans thought that the civil liberties of Muslim- and Arab-Americans should be curtailed? Because this is the sort of ignorant legacy we're leaving.
