Burn a flag, piss off a Republican.

Here are the only three reasons I'll ever need in order to never support an Amendment to the Constitution allowing a ban on flag burning:

1) Uncertainty over what a "flag" is. Is it a standard, fabric flag only? Is it something that looks like a flag I can print out on a color inkjet? Is it a flag that has 49 stars? Either the law defines a "flag" so narrowly that anything except a fabric flag of certain dimensions and with certain attributes that define a flag as ours is not a "flag", or the definition is so broad that people get arrested for burning anything that looks remotely like an American flag.

2) What exactly would they be outlawing? Burning? Don't the Boy Scouts make it a habit of burning flags that have been given to them to be retired? In fact, isn't that how you're *supposed* to retire a flag? So, no, they're not actually outlawing burning a flag. They're outlawing the intent, the THOUGHT, behind burning a flag. They're outlawing THOUGHT.

3) Two words: First Amendment. It says, "Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech ...." So what does that mean, exactly? If your mom told you that you could take no candy from the drawer, would that mean that you could take some candy from the drawer?
