Celebrity Spotting, DC Style

I crossed paths briefly today with the most famous person I've ever crossed paths with.

I'd gone down to the B&N on 18th to kill some time until Jenn got out of work, bought Bill Clinton's My Life, all 969 pages of it in softcover, then went over to Farragut Square to meet up with Jenn. We met up, were walking along 17th Street, when all of a sudden I realized I recognized someone walking briskly toward us on the sidewalk.

It was George Stephanopoulos.

He was on his cell phone, and I was briefly starstruck, so he whizzed past before I'd even thought about saying something. I just wish my new purchase hadn't been submerged in the B&N plastic bag. Maybe it would have conveyed some small sense of belonging.

Whatever. It was the most famous person I've ever seen walking down the street. It's not a remarkable story. Everyone in DC has experiences like this all the time. My girlfriend works with E. J. Dionne, for chrissakes. But it was my first experience like that in nearly 5 years of living in this area.

(That doesn't count the time I saw Mayor Williams at Ben's Chili Bowl messily eating a chili dog.)
