Wayback Machine: SU

Remember when Susquehanna's web page looked like this?

I do. It was the very first web page I visited, likely in the spring, but definitely the fall of 1995.

oh my god that is HILARIOUS!!! How do you even still have that???

As a sidenote, I recently saw (maybe you did as well) the prototype for the "new" SU Site. It is so trendy and hip-hopped out you wouldn't believe it.

Thanks for the laugh!

Being ever the pack rat, I am a *big* fan of archive.org, where they take snapshots of all sorts of web sites. On a lark, I decided to see how far back they went with Susquehanna. Lo and behold, there was this gem.

The image in the center of the table was missing, but I'd saved that while we were still at SU because it was an older photo still showing four houses along the avenue (remember during our senior year, the old English Cottage was demolished). It has even more kitsch value now, since most people there wouldn't be able to visualize a time before Apfelbaum Hall.

Anyhoo, I was just thrilled to be able to put the whole thing together for all time. And glad at least one ol' SUer got a kick out of it as well.

I too found it amusing. More in the gentle grin category, but it is rainy here today. Well done.

The English house! How soon we forget.

The whole thing also reminds me of the early days of the internet revolution at SU... the time spent in the labs on "telnet" in the time before a windows-based email program.

Good times...

Waxing nostalgic about the early days of the Internet is an off-time hobby of mine. I love recounting freshman year's email client (PMXStarmail) back when our email addresses had exclamation points in them for folks from other schools (like, I would have been something like bell!milner@susqu.edu or some shit). Or those trips to the library pre-Web when Kathy Dalton wold extoll the virtues of using Gopher and Archie to look stuff up at other libraries.

What a magical time to be alive.

Anyhoo, in case you hadn't seen it first time 'round, this entry sees me geek out about one of the most beloved mainstays of our early collegiate careers. Enjoy.

ok, you are killing me with the nostalgia. PMXStarmail and the bell! stuff. Just too rich.

The course at SU WAS called Using Computers, and you couldn't graduate without taking it. But when you think about those particular four years we were at SU... what a crazy time to learn anything computer-related. Things just exploded.

I've just decided (perhaps belatedly) that we are being SUCH geeks for going on about this. But I am glad there is someone else out there who thinks about these unconventional types of memory lane bits and bobs from time to time.

Thanks again for the laugh. Hope you are feeling well!!

Ah computers and SU....I thought i was going to be the future steven bochco until my senior year when i realized that networked computers would revolutionize the way a young man could see boobs for free. I realized then and there that anything that could scratch an itch that strong in a mans mind was going to be something that would not go away.
A major A-HA moment!!!!
