A bunch of positive news and events from the past week to pass along, as recovery continues apace.
1) Day Old Plays: If you missed it, you missed out. It was wonderful being amongst all those people again. I really do miss the daily grind of being in CR. I miss the people, the social aspect of it most of all, but I miss the event, the thing-ness of doing shows.
Lucky Spinster has written a fantastic entry highlighting the day in question. On a personal note, it was somewhat awesome to have folks so concerned about my health issues of late (and them being so relieved that I'm doing well).
What are likely to be the last words uttered in a Cherry Red play were written by Anton Dudley:
"Every time something dies, something else is reborn. A world of change will always come, beauty lives on, and slapping will ensue..."
2) Lifestyle chages do actually reap benefits. I went to the pre-class interview for this diabetic thing Jenn and I are going to in September. They did my A1c and cholesterol. A1c is still a tad high, but it keeps coming down (currently at 9.0, down from 12.0 two weeks ago). My overall cholesterol number is under 100. My HDL is still low (which means I have to suck it up and go out walking in this unbelievable heat (heat index before noon today was already over 100, it's down to "only" 98 right now). They gave me a pedometer to enable the number fetishist in me to keep yet another list of numbers.
Meanwhile, last week I went to the first of my coumadin clinic visits, and my INR levels (which measure the tendency of your blood to clot) have reached the ideal 2.0-3.0 range, mine being at 2.8. If yours is below 2.0, as mine was untreated, your blood will clot more quickly. So they're going to continue the coumadin therapy for the next six months then re-evaluate.
3) The blood sugar situation is doing remarkably well. For the past two days, I've been consistently hovering around 100. <lesterburnham>I rule!</lesterburnham> Well, actually, Jenn's cooking is the chief thing that rules here.
4) Lastly, today is mine and Jenn's second anniversary. Two years ago at this moment we were plodding through a perfectly awkward date down at the now-defunct Live on Penn series watching They Might Be Giants and trying to figure this thing out. Luckily, the rest of the date went better as the night went on. As the past two years have shown. Happy anniversary, baby.
