ELP 014: Self-portrait edition

In what has become an annual tradition, my latest in the snow+trafficam series, for your amusement.

ELP 013.1: Just a light little something to whet the appetite

There wasn't much to this storm, but at least I got to use the shovel (for the first time in nearly two years).

The access roads for NorthCap got covered, as did pretty much everything in the neighborhood. But the main line remained largely snow-free (slight accumulation between the traffic lanes), and except for the last hurrah burst between 5 and 6 this evening, Rhode Island was only wet.

A good start, but it better not be the only thing on the menu.

4:00pm Update

It's been a mighty long time since I've been legitimately excited about a storm. Watching this one over the past few hours has been fun. We even had some thundersnow around 1:45 this morning.

Anyhoo, I don't know what the end result is gonna be, and I have to remember in the future to lop about 25% off the lower end of the forecast accumulation totals that we get about 24 hours beforehand, and then I'll know what to expect, realistically.

Went out venturing and photographing. The results:


When it finally decided it was going to stick, it stuck in the form of a very wet snow. This bush is down the street and is currently hogging up the entire sidewalk with its droopy ways.


North Cap & V, NW. V Street all the way back to at least 2nd has yet to see any treatment whatsoever.

This is the coolest part about snow storms: White trees.


The pièce de resistance: A Study in Simultaneity. The RI traffic cam and I take pics at the same time. One good thing: The colors on my camera are at least better than that of DC's traffic cameras. I've circled in red the camera source in each shot. You know, just to more fully embrace the geekitude.

When can I start getting excited about the storm?

NOW?!?

I don't want to be let down yet again by the extreme un-snowy conditions we've had this winter, but it's getting hard to resist the pull, especially when you - as I do - obsessively read (& then refresh) the comments over at CapitalWeather.

So, in an effort to keep myself grounded, there's always this one:

Weather guys will start the climbdown tomorrow around noon. Here's my hype forecast for this storm.
9am: 4-7"
12pm: still forecasting 3-6"
3pm: 3-6" N & W
6pm: 1-2" metro
9pm: total accumulation 0.8315", and you'll have to drive to Carolina to buy bread or toilet paper

ELP 004: Winter Wonderland

I'm a big fan of snow. Problem is, we don't get that much of it here. So I was excited when the first storm of the season hit on Monday. So excited, in fact, that I took a picture of it. Here's the park behind my house, getting some snow on it.
