Cisne, Illinois (4/21/05, 7:00 pm CDT): I don't know how many roads named Milner Street there are in America, but there's at least one, and that one is named after progenitors of mine. In the middle of the 19th century, Some relatives of mine moved from Ohio to the burgeoning frontierland of Illnois. Some continued westward after that, but some stayed and settled. One of those was a man named Harmon Milner, my great-great-great-grandfather. He, along with a few others established the town of Cisne, and the Buckeye Church there. In honor of the family's efforts, Milner Street was named after him.
Milner Street, the church, and the town are all still there in south central Illinois. It's not much to see, and is the farthest thing from a destination point you could get. Unless you wanted to take pictures of a street named after your family.
So here they are: A picture of Milner Street, and the only street sign I'd ever consider stealing.

I am from Cisne and I go by this street everday. No there isnt much in our town, but its cool that you put this on here. SO thank you. And Go Runnin Lions(Cisne High School)
It was a trip actually seeing this town that I've seen in name only in so many of my family's genealogical records. And I did stop at the gas station just across the street from the intersection looking for the Buckeye Church (which, in an earlier form, my great-great-great-Grandfather helped to found), and the folks in there - a couple of older gentlemen and a couple of people behind the counter - were nothing but pleasant and helpful. In all, I know very well why by forebearers stopped there in their journey westward... it's an absolutely beautiful part of the state, and about the farthest thing from the hustle and bustle of my life here in the east.
And yes, Go Running Lions!
