Life's Odd Turns

So, I went to see my Nationals last Tuesday, but instead of being able to enjoy the game, I had a stroke.

I'm fine, for the most part. There don't appear to be any lasting repercussions, except for a small, occassional hesitancy in my ability to choose words when I speak, and an occasional numb patch on my upper lip. I came home from the hospital today.

One benefit to having the stroke (and there aren't many) was that a fairly substantial form of diabetes, previously undiagnosed, was caught by the excellent physicians up at Washington Hospital Center. If ever I've experienced a double whammy, this would be it.

Over the next few days, weeks, and likely years, I'm going to write about what all of this means, hoping to give to this thing some perspective within my life (redefined by it as it is), share things I learn from experience, from others and from my body as I deal with this new thing. My hope is that someone, if even one person, might be able to benefit from this new adventure I'm embarking upon.

To the friends who have been so kind to me and to Jennifer over the past week, know that I am eternally in your gratitude for your warmth and ability to rally at my side (even if only in spirit).

This should be, if nothing else, fun to share.

I was wondering why there hadn't been any posts for a while. Obviously I wish you nothing but ease and safety in dealing with this. I'm with you, bro.

As for the Nats, they won. Duh. What else do they do?
